STEREOSCOPIC GEMS
[publishing city unknown]
Stereoscopic
Gems was a small, pirate company that issued views
of American and Foreign Scenery in the 1880’s and 90’s. Their
home office location is unknown. Most of the photos tend to be
of low quality, while the mounts are of good, thick stock. Their
views were sold by agents only.
Two
styles of Yellowstone views have surfaced by this company.
One is designated as a "Yellowstone Park Series." It is on olive
colored mounts. The second style, is part of their "Miscellaneous
Subjects Series," and is on tan mounts. More views of
Yellowstone by this small stereoview producer are likely to
turn up in the future.
Limestone Hoodoos.
The less common style by Stereoscopic Gems
is the Olive Mount type pictured above. The image is of the
Hoodoos, located just south of Mammoth Hot Springs.
Summit of Minerva Spring.
The more common viewtype is the beige
mount like the one seen here. This scene shows the top of
Minerva Terrace, also at Mammoth.
