Popular Series was a producer of low-quality pirate stereoviews during the 1870’s-1890’s. They had extensive coverage of United States and foreign scenery. Their production numbers must have been fairly high, as their views are still quite common today.
Their Yellowstone views are essentially in two styles. The rare style has a gray mount with red-lettering. Very few of these have been scene. The common style contains the elaborate titling "Popular Series" on both sides of the view front, on either tan or yellow/tan mounts. The mount color variation may be due to weathering and age. This more common style came in several sub-styles. The view titling is varied because the company did not remove the original photographers numbering or titling. Often the titles of T. W. Ingersoll or F. Jay Haynes are still plainly evident on the view.
Popular Series also issued a few color-tinted views of less than average quality.
