OLAF LARSON
Moscow, Squirrel, Idaho

Image of Olaf Larson in his Idaho studio.

Olaf P. Larson was born in Nordfjordeid, Norway in 1879. He moved to this country at a young age and established a studio in Moscow, Idaho during the 1890’s, while he was still a teenager. Between 1900 and 1910 he farmed at Squirrel, Idaho and continued to take stereoviews of the area. He also produced at least one stereoview of Yellowstone during this period. It is the only known view taken in the park’s Bechler region. It is likely that several more park views from this area exist. Larson died at age 92, in San Francisco in 1971.

Bob Berry Collection

The Beautiful Terrace Falls, Fall River, Y.N.P.

A rare Yellowstone image by Larson shows Terraced Falls in the park’s Bechler Region. There are likely more Yellowstone views by him, but few have as yet surfaced.
