AMERICAN PHOTO COMPANY
Norfolk, Virginia - Ilion, New York - Holyoke and Boston, Massachusetts

The American Photographic company produced views for nearly thirty years. They began production in the 1870’s and continued until the turn of the century. Offices were located in Norfolk, Va., Ilion, NY and Holyoke and Boston, Massachusetts. Their views are uncommon today but their numbers go as high as 800. The coverage was broad including much of the United States. Oddly their earlier views were on regular sized flat mounts (3½" by 7") and later ones were issued on Cabinet sized flat mounts (4" x 7"). Still later they went back to regular sized curved mounts. It is unclear whether the four publishing cities listed above are the same company or different companies with the same name.

At this time only two Yellowstone views have shown up under this company imprint.

Grotto Geyser Cone, Yellowstone Park.

This traditional view of Grotto Geyser at Upper Geyser Basin is the standard issue type by the American Photo Company. It displays the "Sold By Canvassers" on the left front and the city of publication on the right front.
