AMERICAN AND FOREIGN SCENERY
[Publishing city unknown]
Not
much is known about this pirate company; not even their
geographic origin of publication. What is known is that these
views appeared sometime during the 1890’s. They issued religious,
comics and miscellaneous subjects. American & Foreign Scenery
views are somewhat scarce. They are all on regular sized mounts
(3 ½ x 7) and most, if not all, images are pirated from other
photographers.
Only
three Yellowstone views by this company are known at this
time. Yet it seems likely that a few more exist in private
collections. They were produced on two different colored mounts,
indicating separate printings.
VIRGINIA CANON ROAD, YELLOWSTONE.
The tan mount style of American & Foreign
Scenery. This is an image of the now obsolete, Virginia Canon
Road. The scene is taken near the base of Virginia Cascade, at
the spot known as the Devil’s Elbow.
CRYSTAL CASCADE BRIDGE, YELLOWSTONE.
The light brown mount style of American &
Foreign Scenery. This photo shows an old bridge over Cascade
Creek just yards above Crystal Falls near Canyon.
