AMERICAN SCENERY
New York, New York

The American Scenery Co. published views out of their New York City office from about 1900-1920. They produced several notable sets including The Yosemite Valley, California, Chicago & Vicinity, and New York City & Vicinity. Their views on regular and cabinet mounts are fairly common pirated views of good quality. Well-known pirated photographers by them include C.L. Weed and J.W. Moulton.

Where Yellowstone is concerned nearly a dozen views by them are known. Photographers pirated include William Henry Jackson and Henry Bird Calfee. 3 distinct styles are known, but no duplication of Yellowstone views has been seen between these styles as of yet.

This style of American Scenery stereoview is the least abundant. It is a pirate view with the title shown over the photo on the lower right side. The man is bathing in an unidentified terrace at Mammoth Hot Springs.

Very similar to the first view, this one has some distinct differences. The mount color is yellow, the publisher titling is slightly varied, and although the man is the same, this image has been color tinted.

The Great West Series view pictured above is an exact duplicate of a William Henry Jackson view issued by E. & H.T. Anthony entitled, "Steam Jet, Lower Basin." Several Jackson views were reissued by the American Scenery publisher this way.

Castle Peak and Pyramid Mountain, Yellowstone Park.

The more common American Scenery type is the New "H" Series style. Views were also released with the New "H" Series label alone and no credit to American Scenery.
